I spent over 16+ years in salons - behind the chair, on the floor, running the business side of things. I watched owners pour everything into their space. The lighting they agonised over. The furniture they waited months for. The experience they had thought through from every angle.

And then, without fail, the client would sit down and get wrapped in a cape that had nothing to do with any of it.

Cheap fabric. All black. No connection to the considered space it was worn in.

For an industry that had evolved in every other way - studios that were now genuinely beautiful, intentional, curated spaces - the cape was stuck in a different era entirely.

I kept waiting for someone to fix it.
